There are few things that get my students as engaged and excited as Bingo, and early in the year when we are learning our letters, this Letter Bingo game is my go-to!
There are 5 Bingo cards in each set, so print out a class set, pass out the dotter markers, and play! At first, I draw the letters either from my set of letter cards or from my magnet letter tub. Later in the year, kids can take over this roll and pull letters out for each other. If a student has that letter, they color it in once. Students work towards making a row of 4 or a column of 5, and as they get Bingo's, I go around with my You're a Champ stamp!
I have made a few sets of Bingo cards to use as we learn letters sequentially. That way, once we've got the first few letters, we can practice with a fun Friday Bingo game to reinforce that letter identification. Bonus points for students who can also say the letter's sound!
Once we've introduced all the letters and reviewed them in groups, we're ready to mix it up. I use the all-uppercase set to review the alphabet, and the all-lowercase to make sure we have our correspondence down solidly.
From January - June, I like to put the whole alphabet Bingo cards, upper and lower case, in the student's Literacy Games tub so that they can always return back to this favorite. They love pulling letters out for each other and facilitating this game once they become letter experts!
